Types and Differences in Audiences

GENERAL PUBLIC:

-Diverse audience

-Make information easily understandable and visual, best when you can induce all senses

-Explain the information well/ make it easy for audience to follow and understand

-Provide background knowledge on subject

-Adapt vocabulary 

-Define vocabulary thoroughly

-Avoid “beating the dead horse”/ Don’t need too much information but enough to understand main idea(s)

Professional Audience: 

-People of same or similar field

-Have background knowledge

-Provide more details on methodology and analysis

-Can use vocabulary that exists in your field (doesn’t need to be as adapted)

– Can paraphrase material

-Do not need to explain things as thoroughly
